Kalita & the flat bed

In a cone, the bed is deepest at the tip: water falling through the centre crosses more coffee than water near the edge, so the two extract differently by geometry alone. A flat bed deletes the problem — every drop crosses the same depth of coffee. That is the entire argument for the Kalita Wave, and it is a good one.

The second decision: three small holes instead of one large one. The dripper itself now meters the exit, sharing flow control with your grind. Your pour matters less; the brew converges toward even. Where the V60 is a manual transmission, the Kalita is a very good automatic.
